The theory that Jar Jar Binks might be a Sith lord has been a long-standing joke and meme within the Star Wars community. However, this speculation is about to take center stage in the upcoming miniseries, Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy. The creative team behind the show recently shed light on their decision to incorporate the dark side of Jar Jar Binks into the storyline.
Writer and producer Dan Hernandez expressed his team’s excitement about reshaping the Star Wars universe and saw this as a unique opportunity to bring Darth Jar Jar to life. He mentioned, “We said, ‘Maybe this is the only possible way to actually tell the story of Darth Jar Jar and what would that look like?’ and just kind of take it seriously as a not just a meme joke.”
Hernandez also shared how impactful it was to have Ahmed Best reprise his role as Darth Jar Jar. Best not only embraced the Darth Jar Jar memes but also brought an unexpected depth to the character with his performance.
The new miniseries was designed to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Lego and Star Wars partnership by offering fans a playful and imaginative look at the Star Wars universe. Writer and producer Benji Samit highlighted that the series aims to capture the essence of playing with Star Wars Lego sets, where creativity and storytelling take center stage.
