- Despite skepticism, the possibility of a new Half-Life installment is bolstered after various resume entries and extracted data including keywords like ”worker, feral man hacks, Offworld,” and more.
After decades of asking and questioning, the ever-elusive Half-Life 3 rumors have surfaced once again. However, this time, a new Half-Life game may finally be on the horizon as new leaks and data-mining efforts signal an actual installment in the works.
Although pretty much the entire gaming community has lost hope when it comes to Half-Life 3, one of the ever-vigilant Redditors and a content creator did find interesting clues indicating a new Half-Life installment.
Posted by the Reddit user KekanKok, the latest wave of rumors was set off by a voice actor’s recently deleted entry on her resume, stating that she participated in Project White Sands by Valve.
The entry didn’t include more details and is now deleted along with Natasha Chandel’s entire website. But the name White Sands is incredibly important here, as it refers to the national park in New Mexico and also the Black Mesa in the Half-Life universe.
However, a mere entry on the resume, despite being quite interesting, is not the only reason behind the speculation buzz. After all, it can also refer to a developing sequel to the VR masterpiece Half-Life: Alyx.
According to the newly found data by the famous data-miner Tyler McVicker, that doesn’t seem to be the case, though. Based on his findings, a new Half-Life game has been in the works, and it’s not a VR title.
Knowing that the Half-Life 3 rumors are so untrustworthy that they have become a meme at this point, McVicker emphasizes that ”he wanted to be very careful before going live.” He also believes that the newly found data has nothing to do with the recent Valve title Deadlock.
That’s because the data contains words that fit the Half-Life universe, like ”xengorillas, workers, storks, Offworld,” and many more.
Along with these words, McVicker also touches on other solid evidence about a designer who worked on an unannounced project between 2020 and 2023 and focused on combat, puzzles, and level design.
Half-Life 3 Leaks Abound But Odds Still Look Slim
Despite the new Half-Life 3 leaks and rumors, the next chapter in Gordon Freeman’s story still seems incredibly thin to come to life. After two decades of rumors and fake hints, most players believe that the possibility of seeing Half-Life 3 is non-existent.
Knowing Valve’s unique approach to their games, we may never see a new Half-Life or suddenly find ourselves paying for a VR headset to visit City 17 once again. Both are equally possible when it comes to Valve, after all.
Project White Sands might actually be referring to Half-Life 3 or another game set in the same universe. Regardless of the leaks, it’s important to remember that Valve actually canceled Half-Life 3 alongside many other titles in the last decade. So, it’s always best to take everything with a pinch of salt.
