Exciting news for all Stranger Things fans! Before the highly anticipated Season 5 brings the beloved Netflix series to a close, fans in America will have the opportunity to experience the magic of the stage play next year. Stranger Things: The First Shadow is officially making its Broadway debut in April 2025. To add to the excitement, a brand new trailer for the play has just been released.
Originally opening in London’s West End in late 2023, Stranger Things: The First Shadow is a prequel to the series directed by Stephen Daldry. The play features an original story by the creators of Stranger Things, Matt and Ross Duffer, co-writer of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Jack Thorne, and scriptwriter Kate Trefry.
This thrilling stage production serves as an origin story for Henry Creel in the 1950s, revealing his transformation into the iconic villain, Vecna. In addition, the story follows familiar characters like James Hopper, Joyce Maldonado, and even the ill-fated Bob Newby from Season 2. The Duffer brothers have hinted that the play’s events may hint at what’s to come in the fifth season.
As for the Broadway production, it is yet to be confirmed whether any of the original cast members will reprise their roles. The show will be staged at the Marquis Theatre in New York City starting April 22, 2025, with preview performances scheduled to begin on March 28, 2025. While the premiere date for Stranger Things Season 5 is still to be announced, fans are in for a double dose of excitement come 2025!
