Did you know that the healthcare/pharmaceuticals sector is now the most-often attacked vertical for enterprises, according to a recent report? This sector has displaced the insurance industry, which had held the top spot for the past two years. The energy/utilities industry ranks third, maintaining its position for the last three years. Other highly targeted verticals include banking, consulting, financial services, and retail/wholesale.
The report highlights the common phishing strategies used by cyber attackers, such as creating a sense of false urgency and manipulating user emotions. These tactics aim to elicit feelings of urgency, confusion, anxiety, or excitement to trick recipients into clicking on malicious links or opening harmful attachments. According to KnowBe4, these techniques are effective because they can prompt individuals to react impulsively without questioning the authenticity of the email, impacting both personal and professional life.
While traditional phishing methods of using malware-laden URLs or attachments remain prevalent, the report also notes the increasing use of QR codes by cybercriminals.
Stay informed and vigilant against these evolving phishing techniques to protect yourself and your organization from potential cyber threats. For more details, you can check out the full report here.
