When it comes to video games, it’s no surprise to see older titles being phased out once a remaster or remake is on the horizon. Sega is no exception to this trend, as the original Sonic Generations is set to be delisted before the remaster, Sonic x Shadow Generations, hits the market. But fear not, as the classic Sonic Generations won’t be disappearing entirely.
According to an announcement from Sega via the Sonic the Hedgehog account, Sonic Generations will be removed as a standalone title on September 9. However, the game will still be available in bundles on Steam and Xbox, ensuring that fans can still access it in its original form. Existing owners of Sonic Generations will also be able to download and play the game without any interruptions.
If you’re a fan of old-school gaming, you can also grab a copy of Sonic Generations for Xbox 360, which is backwards compatible on Xbox One and Xbox Series X. Amazon currently offers new copies of Sonic Generations for Xbox 360 for just $23, making it a worthwhile purchase before it becomes harder to find.
As for Sonic x Shadow Generations, this remastered version includes the original game alongside a new title, Shadow Generations, with the two games running concurrently. Sega is set to release Sonic x Shadow Generations on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC on October 25.
