It’s been 42 years since the groundbreaking film Tron hit theaters, and fans have been eagerly awaiting the next chapter in the franchise. Tron: Ares has been in development for years, and at D23, Disney finally unveiled a sneak peek at what’s to come.
Jared Leto takes on the title role of Ares, a program who crosses over from the Grid into the real world. Joining Leto are Greta Lee, Evan Peters, and original Tron star Jeff Bridges. Peters is set to play Julian Dillinger, a character with ties to the original film, while Bridges appears to reprise his role as Kevin Flynn.
The preview showcased Dillinger giving a speech on intelligent life and the integration of AI programs, setting the stage for Ares’ arrival. Lee’s character, Eve Kim, hints at a connection to Ares’ journey into the real world. Additionally, the film will feature a score by Nine Inch Nails, adding an extra layer of excitement for fans.
Tron: Ares is scheduled to hit theaters on October 10, 2025, promising a whole new adventure for fans of the futuristic franchise. But that’s not all that Disney revealed at D23 – with announcements ranging from Avatar 3 and Toy Story 5 details to sneak peeks at Star Wars: Skeleton Key, The Mandalorian, Grogu, and Marvel projects like Fantastic Four, Daredevil, and Ironheart.
