Exciting news for Star Wars fans! After nearly five years without a new movie in the franchise, 2026 will mark the return of cinema with the highly anticipated release of The Mandalorian & Grogu. Just in time for the 49th anniversary of Star Wars, this film has already started production, with a sneak peek revealed at D23 that got fans buzzing.
Although filming has just begun, the first footage showcased a flashback to the iconic first meeting between Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin and everyone’s favorite green sidekick Grogu from the initial episode of The Mandalorian. And that’s not all – viewers also got a glimpse of their upcoming adventures, including an epic showdown with an AT-AT walker.
Grogu still lets his dad do most of the shooting, but there are heartwarming moments where they bond over a bowl of soup. Fans will be thrilled to see Zeb from Star Wars Rebels making a cameo appearance. And keep an eye out for Grogu chilling on a ship alongside Babu Fick’s species, with Snowtroopers adding another layer of excitement to the mix.
Set after the events of The Mandalorian Season 3, where Din Djarin officially becomes Grogu’s adopted father while imparting Mandalorian teachings on his young trainee, this film is shaping up to be a thrilling continuation of their story. Directed by Jon Favreau, The Mandalorian & Grogu is set to hit theaters on May 22, 2026.
But that’s not all the Star Wars news from D23! In addition to the film reveal, Lucasfilm treated fans to the first trailer for Skeleton Crew, as well as exciting announcements like Toy Story 5 and the title reveal for Avatar 3. It’s a great time to be a part of the Star Wars universe!
