It was a sad day in May when Microsoft announced the closure of Tango Gameworks, a studio with a 15-year legacy known for games like the popular 2023 hit Hi-Fi Rush. However, hope was not lost as Seoul-based publisher Krafton Inc. stepped in to acquire Tango Gameworks along with the Hi-Fi Rush IP from Microsoft.

The agreement ensures that Tango will be able to continue developing the Hi-Fi-Rush IP and also explore future projects. Krafton’s official announcement emphasized that there would be “no impact” on other Tango projects such as The Evil Within and Ghostwire: Tokyo, as they will remain under Microsoft’s umbrella.

Krafton’s acquisition of Tango Gameworks was announced on Monday in Seoul, signaling the publisher’s commitment to expanding its global reach and enhancing its content offerings. Microsoft also expressed excitement about working with Tango Gameworks under Krafton’s ownership, eagerly anticipating their next game.

Alongside Tango Gameworks, Microsoft had closed three other studios in May: Alpha Dog Games, Roundhouse Games, and Arkane Austin. The closures were part of Microsoft’s strategy to reallocate resources to prioritize key projects within their gaming portfolio.

Hi-Fi Rush, originally released in January 2023 for Xbox and PC, caught players by surprise with its unique gameplay. The game later made its way to PlayStation 5, along with other titles developed by Microsoft Studios, further cementing its place in the gaming community.

With Krafton Inc.’s intervention, Tango Gameworks and the Hi-Fi Rush IP are set to embark on a new chapter filled with exciting opportunities and innovative projects, much to the delight of fans and industry insiders alike.
