Confused about the latest laptop specs making headlines in the PC world? You’re not alone. The Copilot+ PC has been causing quite a stir, with its unique features and capabilities.

First things first, if you’ve noticed a Copilot button on new Windows laptops placed conveniently next to the space bar, tapping it will introduce you to Microsoft’s AI companion, Copilot. But here’s the twist – having this button doesn’t automatically mean you have a Copilot+ PC.

So, what exactly is a Copilot+ PC? It’s not a physical button but a Microsoft specification that focuses on AI. Manufacturers can achieve this specification by equipping their laptops with an AI processor capable of 40 TOPS (trillion operations per second) and ensuring “all-day battery life.” Interestingly, both Intel and AMD fall short in fulfilling these requirements, leaving Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon CPU as the sole contender for any Copilot+ PC currently on the market.

Wondering what a Copilot+ PC can do? Three key features stand out. Cocreator within Microsoft Paint allows you to sketch something and let the AI complete it for you. Windows Studio Effects enhance video calls with creative filters, while Live Captions can translate 44 languages into English in real-time. However, the highly anticipated Recall feature has faced delays due to privacy concerns.

Sounds impressive, right? Well, there’s a catch – the Snapdragon CPU’s ARM architecture limits its capability to run certain apps smoothly. Despite having an emulation system to translate x86 apps, some tasks may be too much for Copilot+ PCs. Additionally, the graphics performance of the Snapdragon chip lags behind major CPUs. On the bright side, the promise of all-day battery life holds true.

So, is a Copilot+ PC right for you? If you fancy the idea of sketching a basic image and letting AI do the rest or benefiting from real-time translations and video enhancements, this unique laptop might be worth considering. Just be prepared for some limitations in app compatibility and graphics performance.
