It was at this moment when my previously enthusiastic husband’s excitement waned. He decided to hand the task over to me, claiming it was my responsibility. This sudden shift in attitude was unexpected, especially considering how just a few weeks prior, he had praised these boxes as a miracle.
On a side note: Resetting a Sonos speaker to factory settings involves unplugging the power cord, pressing and holding the Bluetooth button while plugging the power cord back in, and continuing to hold the Bluetooth button until the light flashes orange and white. I had to repeat this process multiple times for each speaker, even while on the phone with Sonos tech support.
“I have a complaint,” I voiced out. At that moment, I was balancing the Sonos sub in my lap on one corner, using my left hand to hold the Bluetooth button on the front side of the sub, while reaching for the plug at the bottom with my right hand. “I don’t believe resetting to factory settings should be this cumbersome.”
“Ideally, customers shouldn’t have to go through this process frequently,” he responded calmly.
The breaking point came when, after weeks of tinkering, everything was finally operational. I only had one more thing to test: the TV Audio Swap feature when using Sonos Ace headphones with the app. This feature allows you to listen to TV audio privately through the headphones without disturbing others in the room. However, to my dismay, I discovered that the TV Audio Swap feature was exclusive to the Sonos for iOS app.
After weeks of troubleshooting, the thought of going through another round of resetting everything just to test the audio swap on my iPhone was too much. Apologies to those interested in learning about audio swap; I decided to sit down and write about my experience instead.
Gimme Some
Sonos speakers truly deliver exceptional performance. Once I had the entire setup running and started playing Sabrina Carpenter in the living room, my 7-year-old son rushed in and began dancing. If you’re accustomed to the tinny sound from TV speakers or using a small Bluetooth speaker while doing chores, experiencing the room-filling sound of a complete home theater system is truly awe-inspiring.
“Mad Max: Fury Road” is one of my all-time favorite films. I viewed it three times in theaters, and testing a home theater sound system provided a convenient excuse to rewatch it. The Sonos system managed to replicate a significant part of the cinematic experience with Dolby Atmos.
